East Grinstead Cricket Academy is delighted to continue with the EGCA Schools Programme that started in 2003. The scheme focuses on both Primary and Secondary school in the local area and is backed by Sussex CCC / Sussex Cricket Board and Mid Sussex District Council.
Key Stage
1, Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 are covered and the coaching includes everything
from basic striking and fielding skills to the more technical and tactical
side of the game as the children develop and therefore need a wider understanding
of the game. All the coaching is carried out by ECB qualified coaches and
will provide the children with an opportunity to learn new skills as well
as playing in competitive matches.
In 2006, EGCA were delighted when it was one of only 4 programmes in the whole of Sussex to participate in the newly founded ECB funded Chance to Shine programme. The basic idea of the programme is to regenerate cricket within the state school system and give the thousands of boys and girls the opportunity to then move onto a club where they can continue with their cricket education.
Currently
we have 12 local schools participating in the Chance to Shine Scheme where
the EGCA coaches visit and undertake coaching up to three hours a week during
and after school hours. In the summer term of 2009, our coaches taught thousands
of children, many for the first time and completed 560 hours of tuition
and this is set to continue into 2012 and beyond.
